Aunt Jean's Rich Chocolate Gravy Recipe

As a child, whenever I visited my Aunt Jean she would make her delicious rich chocolate gravy for breakfast. It only took one time for me to be hooked. Around the age of eleven, I began to have an interest in cooking. I asked my Aunt Jean for her gravy recipe; and I’ve been making chocolate gravy for breakfast ever since. I also discovered chocolate gravy is an easy chocolate dessert since the ingredients are staples in my kitchen. WARNING…I’m pretty sure the rich chocolate taste is what turned me into a chocoholic; so make it at your own risk!

Aunt Jean’s Rich Chocolate Gravy Recipe

1 c. sugar
¾ c. flour
3 T. unsweetened cocoa (increase this to make it more chocolaty, if desired)
cold water
8 T. (1 stick) butter, NOT margarine
4 c. milk
1 t. vanilla, NOT imitation – use the real stuff

In a heavy saucepan, stir together the sugar, flour, and cocoa until well blended. Add cold water, a little bit (about a tablespoon) at a time; and stir until you have a thick chocolate paste. Stir in milk, one cup at a time. Add the stick of butter; and place on medium heat. This must be watched carefully; and stirred constantly. Reduce heat if chocolate gravy starts to stick and burn. Continue to cook until the chocolate gravy is thick; and it reaches the desired consistency. Remove from heat; and stir in the teaspoon of vanilla. Serve over hot buttered biscuits. Makes 3-4 servings.

Just typing this chocolate gravy recipe makes my mouth water. This is so yummy for breakfast; but also, makes a great chocolate dessert. It’s so easy and delicious; you’ve got to try it. Be sure and let me know how you like it.

False Advertising or Not?

Don't you hate it when you see an advertisement for free shipping and find out it is only free if your order exceeds a certain dollar amount; or only free if you meet other requirements? We sure do! At Hubcaps and Gravy, we feel that free means free, no strings attached. If a free shipping offer is only valid under certain conditions, then the advertisement should say so; otherwise, the advertisement is just a tease. To Hubcaps and Gravy, that is false advertising. How do you feel when you see "Free Shipping", click on the link, get to the website, read the fine print, and find free isn't free at all?

Mavricks Rouge Wave - A Day At The Ocean

Saturday, we went to the ocean after hearing the news reports about huge surf with waves reaching thirty feet or more at Mavericks. Mavericks is located at Half Moon Bay in northern California along the Pacific Ocean. A world class surfing contest was held drawing an estimated thirty thousand people. If you have ever been to Half Moon Bay, you know traffic can be a nightmare. With only one lane roads in and out of the area, traffic backs up in a hurry! We checked out the surf report and saw that a beach south of Mavericks was going to be just as wild. In order to avoid traffic problems, we decided to go to Pescadero State Beach about fifteen minutes south of Mavericks. The sun was out so it was not too cold; and the fog had lifted to make viewing perfect. It was magnificent! Waves crashing onto the beach and rocks that you only get to see in pictures...foam covering the beach looking like snow I've seen while skiing in Squaw Valley in the Spring...the sound of the waves crashing into the rocks at times sounding like thunder...such a feeling of power and might left us awe struck! We ate our lunch at picnic benches on the beach while watching mother nature at her best. We had a great time only to learn later that a rouge wave at Mavericks came onto the beach knocking people down and injuring several. Click on the title, Mavricks Rogue Wave to view a youtube video of the rogue wave. It was a day we will never forget!

San Francisco International Gift Fair - our review

The Hubcaps and Gravy crew went to the San Francisco International Gift Fair on Super Bowl Sunday. The highlight of the show for us was the Facebook and Twitter seminar we attended. We went up and down aisles and aisles of fine gifts but oddly nothing reached out and grabbed our attention saying, people would love this product. So, we left a little disappointed because we want to add to our product line. We would love to hear some feedback from you about our products; or what you would like to see on our website.
